Last week, AAPLOG board members brought the voice of life-affirming medical professionals directly to the steps of Capitol Hill.
Our board members spent the day in Washington, D.C. and met with lawmakers and congressional staff to discuss pro-life healthcare policy priorities, strengthen AAPLOG’s relationships with elected officials, and ensure that pro-life medical voices continue to be represented in ongoing legislative conversations and efforts.
Several meetings highlighted legislation supported by AAPLOG Action. Board members met with staff from the offices of Representatives Virginia Foxx, Erin Houchin, and Greg Murphy, as well as Sen. Kevin Cramer, which included discussion of bills related to abortion funding, conscience protections for medical residents, adoption support, and protections against taxpayer funding of abortion providers.
AAPLOG representatives also thanked the office of Representative Mark Messmer for speaking out about abortion pill coercion, an issue AAPLOG publicly talks about and that continues to gain national attention as reports of coercion and abuse associated with abortion drugs become public.
One particularly meaningful meeting was with the office of Representative Greg Murphy, co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus, where board members discussed the importance of protecting healthcare professionals and medical residents and students who wish to practice according to their ethical and medical convictions. In November 2025, Rep. Murphy and Sen. James Lankford introduced AAPLOG Action-inspired bicameral legislation to restore conscience protections for medical residents by changing abortion training from “opt-out” to “opt-in.”
Advocacy is a vital part of AAPLOG’s mission. While much of AAPLOG’s work focuses on education, research, and helping inform patient care, engaging directly with policymakers through AAPLOG Action allows life-affirming physicians to share their clinical experience, compassion and care for mothers and preborn children, and advocate for policies grounded in sound medicine.
AAPLOG is grateful to the board members who dedicated their time to these meetings and represented AAPLOG with passion and conviction.
